How to apply for Associateship Exemption
Introduction to Exemption
If you already hold a photographic qualification you may not have to submit a portfolio of work for the Associateship.
EXEMPTIONS
Step 1
The only courses recognised by the Society are as follows:
- BA/BA Hons Degree in Photography
- Combined BA (hons) Degree (75% Photography)
- MA in Photography
- If you are a current ABIPP
- If you are a current AMPA
The qualification gained must not be more than 10 years old.
Courses we do not award The Royal Photographic Society Distinction for are as follows:
- OU T189
- Online courses
- Overseas courses
- OCA BA Hons in Photography ( under review )
Step 2
You will need to fill out an online ARPS application (PDF 219.36KB). Please follow the exemption guidelines indicated on the application form. (sections 1,3,9,10,12 & 13)
If you already are a member of The Society all you need to pay is the administrative charge of £37.50. *Please note, Non-members fee for the ARPS exemption form March 1st 2012 (New price £40).
If you are not a member, then you need to apply for membership at the same time you apply for the Distinction (Section 12 of the ARPS Application).
Step 3
To accompany your application, we ask that you send a photocopy of your certificate of the award gained or a letter of confirmation from the relevant University/College. the accompanying evidence must state your full name, the award gained and the place of study.
Step 4
The Royal Photographic Society's Council will need to ratify your application, which is done once in every month. After this point the Distinction is awarded and your membership application is then processed. A letter of confirmation, Certificate and lapel badge will be sent within seven working days of the Council meeting.
Please send all applications to the distinctions department at the Fenton House address stated on the last page of all application forms.
Your application needs to have arrived at Fenton House, Bath, at least Five days before your chosen assessment date. The dates for 2012 are:
