John first visited Snowdonia in 1958 walking and climbing amongst the mountains with which he came to love so much. A camera was soon acquired to record what he saw about him and then poetry and painting followed. He became a very accomplished water colourist but it was photography that took a major hold on his life. He walked and climbed in all weathers and as he gained experience with the camera  he was able to portray the emotions and passion he felt for the mountains, capturing the spirit of Snowdonia in its many and ever changing moods.

John went on to hold numerous one-man exhibitions of his work in the UK and gained acceptances and awards in many national and international exhibitions. He had been a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and had served on the Distinctions Panels for the visual arts for some time. He had also been a member of the London Salon and had belonged to the Rushden and District Photographic Club and also the East Midlands Monochrome Group. He was well known on the camera club circuit, lecturing and showing his stunning monochrome photographs throughout the country, inspiring all he met with his enthusiasm and passion for photography and in particular of course, his beloved Snowdonia.

To have the opportunity to spend time in the mountains with John sharing his love of photography and Snowdonia was a great privilege and a very memorable experience.

All the photographs displayed at Fenton House are original Silver Gelatin prints and were taken with a Hasselblad 500CM medium format camera. Ilford FP4 film was used and developed in Ilford ID11 and printed on Agfa Record Rapid fibre paper.
