The elected members of the Advisory Board for the period 2011-2013 are as follows –

Maureen Albright ARPS

I would wish to further develop the links to existing members and potential new members using the powers of the Internet  and also working closely with other photographic Organisations worldwide.  Using the technology of the web I have already been able to establish many contacts with Photographic Associations and Groups across the globe.

However it is extremely important that existing Society members also feel in contact with developments and have an opportunity to voice their hopes and aspirations for the Future of the Society.
I am interested in developing more contact and links with younger photographers
I would work to obtaining more sponsorship to fund RPS projects.
I could advise about the development of the Society website.
  
Ian Bailey LRPS

I have been a member of The Society since March 1987 and since joining have had a close involvement with The Society serving as the treasurer of the Thames Valley Region from its formation in 1989 until my election to Council in 2005 as treasurer of The Society. In addition I also served on the Pictorial Group (now known as the Visual Arts Group) committee firstly as treasurer and for 3 years as chairman of the Group. Whilst I no longer have the time to commit to Council I feel that with my past business experience I can continue to make a contribution to the well being of The Society on the Advisory Board.
 I am a retired Chartered Certified Accountant with many years post qualification experience in industry as Managing Director of one of the largest shop fitting companies in the UK.
 I still enjoy photography and currently serve as secretary of my local club Stratford Photo Group and am treasurer of the Midland Counties Photographic Federation

David Wheeler FRPS

I have been a member of the RPS for over 30 years and currently sit on the Visual Arts Distinctions Panel. I have just completed a 2 year term on the Advisory Board, during which time I was co-opted on to the Exhibitions Committee. Under the leadership of Roy Robertson, the group has continued to enhance the profile of the International Print and Projected Image Exhibitions, successfully attracting substantial prize money through high profile sponsorship. These exhibitions, along with the recent Members Exhibition, have provided a visible presence for the Society around the country along with a considerable amount of publicity. There are many challenges ahead, particularly in expanding the use of the internet for exhibition entry and I would like the opportunity to serve a second term on the Advisory Board in order to help consolidate my contribution and to allow greater involvement in other aspects of the Society. I remain committed to increasing the appeal of the Society to photographers of all ages of all levels of ability and see the Distinctions process and the exhibitions as being critically important in this respect.

Dr. A. Sutcliffe FRPS

As a senior intensive care doctor I cared for severely ill patients in the West Midlands and contributed to managerial and educational activities in the wider NHS and abroad. During stressful times, creating digital prints kept me sane. I enjoy sharing my images and judging locally and internationally. I was press officer and then president of Solihull Photographic Society.

As a council member of the Association of Anaesthetists, I helped run its Art Exhibition for several years before taking over as curator. Encouraging colleagues to develop confidence in their artistic side through various art forms but especially photography was immensely rewarding. Some colleagues joined the RPS and a few gained distinctions.

I was secretary to the Colour Group’s postal circle D. I joined the Licentiate Assessment Panel in 2006 and in 2010 became a chairperson.

My patients taught me that our future is unpredictable. A professional colleague insisted ‘life is not a rehearsal’. So I seize opportunities when they arise. In the past, opportunities were usually professional. Recently retired, I now wish to make a more effective contribution to the RPS. Thank you for electing me to the Advisory Board which will give me an opportunity to promote the hopes and aspirations of RPS members. Improved communication and educational opportunities are issues in the Strategic Plan that I have experience of and hope to advance. I have ideas to increase RPS membership from amongst groups not traditionally considered fertile ground for recruitment.

Mrs. K. Berry ARPS

I have been an active photographer since I was nine years old.  I have been a member of the Royal Photographic Society for 15 years.  I currently have the great pleasure of sitting on the Licentiate Panel.  I particularly enjoy the Distinctions Advisory Days and the more informal photo forums organised by the Scottish Region which provide an excellent opportunity to meet other members and discuss photography.  I have a particular interest in the RPS Distinctions and the feedback given to members.

I am a former President of the Edinburgh Photographic Society.  I served for many years on the Exhibitions Committee for the Edinburgh International Exhibition of Photography.  I enjoy entering national and international photographic exhibitions.

Thank you for electing me to the Advisory Board.  The Society is its members, what binds us together is our passion for photography.  I think that it is important that The Society listen to its members and communicate with the membership clearly.  At present we probably have more methods of communication than we have ever had before and I believe these are tools that should be used effectively.  I think that it is as important to retain and involve our existing members as it is to recruit new members.  The Society should be relevant to all photographers.

Mrs. J. Ford ARPS

I joined The Society in 1994 and served on the committee of the Contemporary Group from 1997 to 2008, serving as Exhibition Organiser and subsequently as Secretary. I organised four Members’ Exhibitions for the Contemporary Group, hanging and taking them down in a variety of venues in London and throughout the UK.  These exhibitions helped to raise the profile of the RPS. I am currently Secretary of the Historical Group. A shared aim is to strengthen the collaboration with the National Media Museum with respect to ensuring that the RPS Collection remains active and continues to be widely accessible. This is a process that is currently being successfully developed by Council and one that I will actively support during my term on the Advisory Board.

The Special Interest Groups reflect the diversity of interests of the membership and provide like minded photographers with relevant activities and events. I support continued liaison between Regional Organisers and Special Interest Groups to provide quality meetings, encouraging members to attend and to enhance their membership of The Society.

I was awarded a MA Photography: History and Culture from London College of Printing in 1996, thus a critical framework of photographic history informs my contemporary practise of photography. I have curated and hung photographic exhibitions at the BCA Gallery, Bedford. My work has been exhibited with the RPS Contemporary Group, at the BCA Gallery, Bedford Library and also published.
