Joan Wakelin Bursary
The Joan Wakelin Bursary 2013
The Guardian/Royal Photographic Society Joan Wakelin Bursary each year offers a bursary of £2,000 for the production of a photo essay on an overseas social documentary issue.
Entry for the bursary is free of charge and is open to all photographers, of any age and nationality. Applicants should submit a written proposal outlining their photo essay subject, in a maximum of 500 words, along with 6-8 images, measuring 1400 pixels as the longest dimension at 72DPI, evidencing their approach to the medium and photographic ability.

Closing date for applications Friday 26 JULY 2013
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview in August at The Guardian offices, in London, and the winning photo essay will be published by Guardian News and Media, and The Royal Photographic Society Journal in the Spring 2014.

Oliver Woods was awarded the 2012 Joan Wakelin Bursary at The Society's awards ceremony on 6 September 2012. Eleri Griffiths, Rajan Zaveri and Claudia Leisinger were shortlisted.
Neil Hall was awarded the 2011 Joan Wakelin Hon FRPS Bursary at the Macallan 2011 Royal Photographic Society Awards Ceremony on 8 September at the Royal Society. Maiju Torvinenn and Maja Daniles were shortlisted.
Yevgenia Byelorusets won the Joan Wakelin Hon FRPS Bursary in 2010. Other semi-finalists were Jonathan Hyams, Bharat Choudhary and Simon Brown.

Environmental Awareness Bursary - Closes on the 31st May 2013
The Royal Photographic Society in partnership with The Photographic Angle is offering two 1-year bursaries to support a photographic project that will promote environmental awareness. The bursaries will provide £3000 to assist with travel expenses, photographic equipment and other project-related costs. There are two awards available for applicants aged 16-25 and 26+ years.
