Pearson has developed an online course to help learners to change from point-and-click photography to a better understanding of their camera’s potential and how to capture incredible shots.

You’ll start by dipping your toes in the photographic waters by learning, or refreshing your memory of some quick and non-technical tips. We’ll then move through working with colour and light, composing and making the photo, and editing and sharing your images via email and/or Web. There’s also a unit offering inspiration from other photographers.

The 6 units will give direction to your shoots, as well as allowing you to capture notes in your personalised Workbook. With over 10 hours of learning, including videos, you can cover these and the practical activities at whatever pace suits you.

Your tutor, John Roe, runs many of The Royal Photographic Society workshops, and the course has been created in consultation with best-selling photography author, Tom Ang – so you’re in safe hands.

The feedback has been great:

The course not only explained 'what' to do, but 'why', the 'because' impact of various options. It's often missing in manuals.'

‘Understanding Exposure and Working with Light contained information that was new for me and so I particularly enjoyed these sections.’

‘I really liked the Introductory and closing videos of both. It's reassuring to have a friendly person.’
‘I think there is just the right amount of information to get the point across without overwhelming the learner.’
