Professor Persson is a pioneer in medical imaging, in particular regarding advancing clinical work with computed tomography, and magnetic resonance and postmortem imaging. Professor Persson has held over 400 invited talks, and written seven book chapters on related subjects. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 refereed academic publications. Director of the Center for Medical Image Science and Visualization and Professor at Linköping University, Sweden, Professor Persson has a clinical background as a radiologist, and has worked as a Senior Physician since 1993.
Professor Persson has received several awards, most notably the Knowledge Award 2010, the Athena Award 2009, the Lennart Nilsson Award 2008 for outstanding image creation and The Royal Photographic Society’s Combined Royal Colleges Medal in 2013. His striking image of a mechanical heart pump inside the chest of a patient has been announced as the overall winner of the Wellcome Image Awards 2014.
