Gemma will be discussing feminism in art / photography. Her talk will
be relating to her work that will be showing in Birmingham in the
Summer and her current research on female deities, goddesses and
historical representations of women as divine mystical creatures.
Gemma Marmalade is a contemporary British artist specialising in video,
photography and performance. Her practice draws on themes of history,
nature, and sexual politics.
She has exhibited widely in the UK and overseas, including Kunsthal
Charlottenborg, Copenhagen, The Photographers' Gallery, London, The
Apulia Film Commission, Bari and State Museum of Gulag, Moscow.
Gemma is also an academic, teaching principally at the University of
Bedfordshire, with an ongoing research practice and regularly
participates in international symposiums and conferences on
contemporary art debate.
