In late November a group of RPS Southern members and Documentary Group members in the Southern Region got together in Winchester to discuss whether it would be of interest to start a Documentary Group South.
The idea was well received and it was agreed that as the Southern Region was big that it was too ambitious to consider a group covering the whole region. But it was clear that participants would welcome the opportunity of meeting with each other. Both socially and to discuss their images with like-minded photographers away from the stress of club competitions and RPS advisory days.
We agreed to start up a group, based near Winchester, initially to review and critique each other’s images.
The first of these will be held on 1 February, at 7.30 at "The Fryern Pavilion”, Greenways, Chandler’s Ford SO53 2LE. This is close to the M3/M27 motorway.
There’s a lot of talent amongst our members for peer-to-peer learning and discussion and we hope this will be a relaxed way to learn from each other and to share our photographs.
During the first evening there will be someone to lead a discussion on how we critique our own and others photographs. Please bring images with you that you would like to discuss – either images you’re pleased with or images you’d like help in identifying where you went wrong.
This will be an evening to learn more about critiquing images, discussing your own and others images in a friendly relaxed atmosphere and generally chatting with like-minded photographers over a cup of coffee. BUT, please remember that it’s a forum for documentary photography – in its widest form – not for genres which fall under the purview of other RPS Special Interest Groups.
If you wish to attend please let me know at email@example.com. The initial meetings will be restricted to RPS members until we see how the Group develops.
