The London Naturally Group presents an informal Sunday morning walk along the fascinating Grand Union Canal to the historic Cemetery at Kensal Green.
We will take a leisurely walk along the Paddington Branch of the Grand Union canal from it’s start at newly renovated Paddington Basin with it’s modern 21st century architecture following the canal along the towpath under the Westway winding our way along past Trellick Tower to Ladbroke Grove where we’ll exit the canal and head for the historic splendour of Kensal Green Cemetery. One of the Magnificent Seven, Kensal Green dates from 1830 making it one of the oldest public burial grounds in the UK. The site boasts numerous listed building and monuments and is the final resting place for many famous individuals as well as hosting an array of wildflowers, birds and wildlife amongst it mature trees and shrubs.
We will meet at on the towpath by Exit 3 of Paddington Station at 10:00am. This exit is between past the Taxi rank and the Circle & District line entrance and exits on to Paddington Basin. The group walk will finish about 12:00 at the Ladbroke Grove by Kensal Green Cemetery were the group will be free to explore the diversity of this fascinating historic site. We will enter the Cemetery Main Gate and exit at the Top Gate which is a short walk from Kensal Green Underground station.
Refreshment facilities available at Paddington Basin and Ladbroke Grove.
Please dress appropriately for the weather on the day with sturdy footwear and a drink to keep you hydrated. Do bear in mind that some paths in the cemetery can become muddy if we have had rain.
