You’ll be joining one of the UK’s most well known architectural photographers, Martine Hamilton Knight D Litt(hon) at the multi award winning Nottingham Trent University’s City Campus for a great day learning how to shoot truly memorable photographs of buildings with a longtime pro.

With a hands-on, informal approach, Martine takes you through planning and executing a creative approach to this technical subject matter with your DSLR/CSC kit.

We start the day with an in-depth classroom tutorial and then follow with a walking photographic tour through this stunning collection of urban buildings. With both interiors and exteriors, the challenges of lighting, weather, viewpoint, working with models and styling, you will learn how to plan and execute memorable shots.

The Newton Arkwright Building won a RIBA award in 2011 when it was restored, and our second case study 200yds away is the contrasting Byron House which was completed in 2014. With a mixture of Victorian Gothic, Twentieth Century classicism and cutting edge new build, you’re assured of a huge variety of images to take away.

There is no parking at the site, but the tram stops outside the door of our venue. Using the Park & Ride from Clifton (junction 24 of the M1) if travelling from the south, or Phoenix Park (junction 26 of the M1) if coming from the north is the best plan, and parking there for the day is free.

If you don’t want to pay for a tram ride, drive to The Forest park & ride site, where parking is also free for the day. It’s a 10 minute walk over the hill to our venue assuming don’t want to hop on the tram. Our base room is in the Newton Tower. Just ask for Martine at reception and they’ll send you up.

Please arrive at 9.45 for a 10am start and the course finishes at around 4.30pm with approx a 1/2 hour break for lunch.

What to Bring
There are cafes in the Newton building for coffee/food but you may want to bring a packed lunch instead.

Please bring your Camera, all Lenses, Charged Batteries & a Tripod - (if you have one), if not we have plenty to borrow but please let us know if you need one bringing. A notebook & pen may be useful.

Our day includes working outdoors and in, so do dress for the weather with comfortable footwear. The sites are wheelchair friendly, but please advise us if you have mobility issues.
