Bring your printer along and learn how to improve your print quality. This is ideal for a beginner and/or those who have had little luck to date with home inkjet printing. Delegates can use any version of Photoshop or Lightroom.

Day One -

How to get the best out of inks, paper types, printer types, while keeping running costs to a minimum

Topic 2: Colour management made easy

Essentials about controlling colour in camera, on your monitor and in your image application.

Topic 3: Edit for print techniques

Learn how to use a simple workflow for improving print quality

Topic 4: Printer profiles

What they are, where to get them and how to install them

Topic 5: Using printer profiles

Linking profiles into your workflow for better results

Topic 6: Making test prints

Running resolution tests, test printing and problem solving

Day Two

Topic 1: What makes a good print?

Review of tests and sample prints

Topic 2: Developing emphasis in your print

How to create visual emphasis in your prints by using shading and masking techniques.

Topic 3: Fine tuning techniques

Sharpening, print resolution and brightness

12.30-13.15 Lunch

Topic 4: Print size and shape

Using templates for contact prints, picture packages and multiple print layouts

Topic 5: Print edges and text

Learn how to add creative edges, borders and text to your printouts

Topic 6: Delegates working on own files

What you need to bring along

A USB stick or portable hard drive with 50 of your own images – alternatively the tutor will provide sample files for you to work with.

Your own inkjet printer together with a power lead, USB printer cable, spare ink and printing paper. You may also wish to bring your own laptop. Alternatively use our laptops but ensure you bring along the correct Printer Software for your printer to work with a Windows 10 PC. Bring this on a USB, SD card or external hard drive.

Note: There is a lift that you can use to carry your printer up to the workshop.

Parking: There is no parking at the RPS on week days but there are spaces available in the surrounding streets.  At weekends you can park in the RPS car park which is accessed to the left of the building through a gateway.

 

Cancellation policy

Please inform us as soon as possible if you are unable to attend a course as it is not possible to refund any cancellation or transfer to another workshop less than 14 days prior to course start date. The Society reserves the right to cancel a workshop 7 days prior to its start date - please check your hotel and travel cancellation policy as this may be affected. If you are attending one of our workshops that involves a trip out please ensure you bring all weather clothing and protection for your camera. Persons under the age of 16 are welcome to attend events but, to conform with UK law, must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.
