What’s the course?
So many of our images are of static subjects, and we are trained to keep the camera as still as possible when we press the shutter.  We're also trained to keep the shutter speed short to avoid blur from a moving subject.  This workshop aims to change all that! It's all about showing movement, or stopping it creatively.

What happens on the course?
In the workshop you'll first learn how to use different sorts of deliberate camera movement, with and without flash, to produce interesting, more creative images.

Having mastered moving the camera during the exposure you'll move on to subject movement.  Should you stop subject movement or show it? After learning how to stop subject movement creatively, you'll find out there are many ways to show subject movement including; long shutter speeds, multiple exposures, and simulating the "Harris shutter" for colourful effects. In one exercise you'll make people disappear!

Finally you'll use camera movement and subject movement together, with and without flash. It'll be fun!

Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone who wants to try a different way of making great images. You’ll need a working knowledge of your compact digital camera or DSLR - because you'll need to switch off Image Stabilisation...

What do I need to bring?
Your digital camera, spare charged camera battery, blank memory card (you'll be taking lots of images), a flash (if your camera doesn't have one built in), a tripod if you have one. A pen and paper might also be useful.

Bring a packed lunch or use local facilities. Tea and coffee are provided.

The course is based in and around Fenton House depending on time and weather conditions.
