Ray Spence is the head of the Distinctions Assessors and he has agreed to come over from the UK for our meeting.  We will also arrange for print boxes of Distinction panels to come across from the UK. These are used for what is called a 'Distinctions Celebration' and covers all levels from LRPS, through ARPS to FRPS.

So the weekend will look like this:

Saturday 24th
11.00  Celebration of Distinctions LRPS and starting some ARPS
13.00  Lunch in a nearby café
14.00  Celebration of Distinctions ARPS to FRPS
17.00  Close

Sunday 25th
10.30  Advisory
13.00  Lunch in a nearby café
14.00  Advisory and open Q&A
16.00  Close

At the ‘Celebration' panels are displayed and Ray tells us something about them, reading out the Statement of Intent for the A and Fs.  We all get the chance to see them close up. It is great to see such inspiring work and the standard of acceptance at all levels.

For the Advisory sessions you do not need to have your work mounted.  It is suggested that A4 size prints are acceptable, with a few spares over and above your panel. You should have your Statement of Intent to read out where appropriate. This is a great opportunity for any of us who aspire to achieve our Distinctions, at what ever level, to get some feedback from the very top man.   Ray is fair, honest and delivers feedback in a sensitive and supportive manner.  ‘Feedback’ should not be misinterpreted as criticism; it is to help you to achieve the required standard and gives you information about what you need to do so that your panel reaches the required standard.

You may attend either of the days or, we hope, the entire weekend. Ghent is easily accessible by train or road. On the saturday night we will book a restaurant so that we can all enjoy a meal together. All food and drinks will be at your own expense. There will be a small charge to cover the costs of putting on the meeting. RPS members €10 / NonRPS €15 for the weekend.

We are extremely fortunate to be able to use the venue of a patron of the arts Mrs Francoise Liedts. It is a purpose built meeting room of superb quality in her restored property in old Ghent. An evening stroll around this beautiful old city is proposed for the saturday evening, after we conclude the Celebration and before dinner.

We hope that as many as possible will come along to this Chapter meeting - everyone is welcome whether a Society member or not. To book your place email Benelux@rps.org telling us if you are bringing work for the Advisory session.
