How to Photograph Cars Workshop with James Mann FRPS at the National Motor Museum,Beaulieu

10.00am-Free entry to the museum

Meet in the terrace room at the Brabazon restaurant for an informal introduction.

Arena                                                                        

10.30-12.00pm

  • Get to know your camera gear. DSLR, bridge, compact, phone
  • Switching to manual, shutter /aperture priority, ISO, file size, auto focus, auto-exposure, aperture and depth of field .Flash adjustment.
  • When to use automated or manual settings
  • Camera bags, back pack, Billingham, camera care.
  • Choosing a tripod. metal. carbon fibre, folded length. type of head.

Shooting action                                                                   

12.-1.00pm

  • Panning, zoom pan, long and short lens
  • Cornering
  • In and on car moving images
  • Bolt on goodies including small rigs

Photographing at a museum or show               

2-3.30pm

  • Shooting inside the National Motor Museum. Including the land speed record cars and other special features.

Round up and retouching 

3.30-4.30pm Brabazon

Terrace room

  • How to get the right passes and shoot at motorsport events
  • Editing your images, re-sizing for the web, file transfer and simple retouching.

What to bring

  • Equipment: Bridge, compact system or  SLR camera and a tripod if you have it.
  • All weather clothing. Packed lunch or use local amenities.
  • Time: 10-5.00pm
  • Level: Intermediate

Cancellation policy

Please inform us as soon as possible if you are unable to attend a course as it is not possible to refund any cancellation or transfer to another workshop less than 14 days prior to course start date. The Society reserves the right to cancel a workshop 7 days prior to its start date - please check your hotel and travel cancellation policy as this may be affected. If you are attending one of our workshops that involves a trip out please ensure you bring all weather clothing and protection for your camera. Persons under the age of 16 are welcome to attend events but, to conform with UK law, must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.
