London Naturally are planning a return visit to the recently reopened Walthamstow Wetlands site.  An opportunity to photograph (or plan to photograph) a variety of birds, invertebrates, amphibians and plant life as well as  seeing the results of the extensive transform project.

Walthamstow Wetlands is a 211 hectare nature reserve in the heart of London’s Lee Valley making it London’s largest urban wetland nature reserve.

We will take a leisurely walk along paths between the reservoirs, stopping at various points.  Birds we are likely to see include grey herons, cormorants, geese (and goslings), grebes, many species of duck and smaller birds such as dunnock, tits and chaffinches.  Kestrels, reed warblers and kingfishers have also been sighted.  In addition to the birds, the site is home to invertebrates such as damselflies and dragonflies, as well as amphibians and plant life.

We will meet at Tottenham Hale Station at 10:30am.  From there it’s a short (5 minute) walk along Ferry Lane to the entrance to the reservoirs (opposite the Ferry Boat Inn). We will aim to complete the walk about 13:00 followed by optional lunch (at your own cost) either on site at the Engine House Café or at the Ferry Boat Inn Pub opposite the site. There is plenty to explore at this location so you may wish to continuing photographing after lunch.
