This month London Naturally will be visiting two parks in Deptford with the aim of capturing images exploring trees and urban biodiversity as part of the Evelyn200 project.

We will meet at Surrey Quays station at 10:30 and walk along Lower Road to Deptford Park and then on to Folkestone Gardens. We will aim to complete the walk about 12:30 followed by optional lunch (at your own cost) at the Festa Sul Prato Café in Folkestone Gardens.

The Evelyn200 project is celebrating the life of the seventeenth century diarist John Evelyn, who lived in this area, by planting 200 trees. In conjunction with this there will be a photography exhibition ‘The Nature of Cities’ to be held at the No Format Gallery, Rolt St, London SE8 5JB for two weekends in July 6/7/8 and 13/14/15 2018 with a preview in the evening on the 5thJuly.

Participants in this London Naturally walk have the option of submitting work for this exhibition. If you are interested in doing this the call for submissions is here and details about submitting work are here. Note there is a cost of £10 per image submitted and you will also need to produce a mounted print (no larger than 50x50cm) at your own expense and deliver it to the gallery. Also note that work can be submitted, using the form, up to 10th June and work then needs to be delivered to the gallery on 3rd July.

Whether or not you wish to submit work, this walk will be an interesting opportunity to shoot to a brief. We recommend that you read up about the project using the links above in advance. A few ideas to consider are: trees, nature, John Evelyn, urban design, urban wildlife, sustainability, air quality and biodiversity; we will discuss how we might capture these during the walk. We will also meet up with the organiser of the project during the morning.
