Education providers surround us and come in many guises, for example CLIP is a learning centre in Lincolnshire set up in 1995 by Janet Farr to specialise in skills for the voluntary sector and the community (Cliplearning.com, 2018), and the Royal Photographic Society is one of the oldest photographic societies in the world, having been founded in 1853 with an objective to promote the art and science of photography (En.wikipedia.org, 2018). As a recognised learned society it exists today to educate members of the public by increasing their knowledge and understanding of Photography, their motto translates to ‘All life perceived’ to indicate that the potential for photography is to observe and record, and by doing so to look to understand life (Rps.org, 2018).

When RPS HQ invited regional organisers to pitch for some funding to organise an event for the volunteers of the society the East Midlands region saw an opportunity to suggest a collaborative project between the RPS and CLIP which they entitled ‘Touched by Home’. The East Midland’s RPS project seemed very timely since 2018 saw many photography led organisations worldwide occupy themselves with projects about home, for example the photography firm Fujifilm sponsored photographers from Magnum to create an exhibition that they intended to tour seven cities throughout the world with, and which questioned what home was to them (Home-magnum.com, 2018). Magnum is “a community of thought, a shared human quality, a curiosity about what is going on in the world, a respect for what is going on and a desire to transcribe it visually” (Magnum Photos, 2018).

Six students from CLIP engaged with the project and four volunteers from the EM RPS and their work can be seen at the CLIP Market Rasen centre at 8 Queen St, Market Rasen LN8 3EH from September 10th through to September 28th between 9.30am and 3.30pm. On the 10th September at 12noon there is an informal gathering of the photographers involved if you would like to meet them.

There is no booking needed, simply turn up. You are advised to phone CLIP to ensure the centre is open before travelling (01673 843489)
