Here’s looking at you, Liverpool! Street Photography

There are two workshops (you don’t have to attend both) in this series; the first based on street photography and the second on editing and sequencing images to create a body of work.

Although it would be great for people to attend both of these workshops, (the second one will be on the 22 September) each session is designed to be of interest as an individual event. The course price includes the printing of a number of your images.  If you don’t attend the second day these will be sent to you.

This workshop is aimed at beginners and intermediates, however you must have a good working knowledge of your camera.

Day 1
An introduction to a range of photographer’s approaches and styles of shooting, before embarking on a walk-about the city, making records of observations as we go.

The session aims;

  • Explore other photographer’s work as a source of inspiration.
  • Discuss new ways of seeing.
  • Encourage shooting with a pre-determined theme in mind.
  • Work towards producing a series of images.
  • Develop techniques that will improve success rates.

Tabitha Jussa will present a 30-minute presentation to inspire participants on different ways of seeing, with examples from pioneering photographic heroes to the most recent ground breaking photographers of today.  Participants will be encouraged to discuss new ways of developing their photographic techniques.

The presentation will be followed by a 4 hour walk through contemporary and historical Liverpool where attendees will be encouraged to make pictures documenting aspects that are of interest and given insight and encouragement towards the development of new photographic skills. This walk will include a 45 minute stop for lunch in the Bluecoat café and garden.

The route will bring us all back to the venue where Tabitha will collect all of the images created, in preparation for the next workshop, if attending.

Attendees will need to:

  • Bring a camera – iPhone or android equivalent, up to DSLR.
  • Wear good walking shoes. A good few hours will be spent wandering.
  • Bring a raincoat just in case!
  • Bring packed lunch or money, food will be available to purchase from The Bluecoat Café.

There is plenty of car parking spaces available in the city centre and there are excellent links to all modes of public transport.

About the tutor:
Tabitha is an artist working within photography, with a keen focus on socio-political issues. Her photographic career began in Liverpool where she now lives. After studying Documentary Photography at University of South Wales, Newport, Tabitha has developed an alternative approach to the tradition of photographic documentation through the construction of large-scale pictures – the metaimage

Jussa has exhibited nationally including the Openeye and Bluecoat, Liverpool; The Grundy, Blackpool; Ffotogallery, Penarth; Royal College of Art, London; and internationally at ShangART Gallery, Shanghai. Jussa was the recipient of the Liverpool Art Prize 2014 Judges and Peoples Choice award.

Location: The CASA BAR and VENUE, 29 Hope Street, Liverpool, L1 9BQ
