A unique opportunity to meet Monica and delve deeper into how she creates her installations, goes about developing her projects and see work not in the exhibition.  Monica will also guide you round her installation giving you a greater understanding of the complexities of presenting work in this way.

Monica is a Mexican-British artist whose works combines film, sound, installation and new technologies to draw attention how much we all need to develop a more ‘curatorial gaze’. She invites audiences to look at what appears as disconnected, or even contradictory, with a discerning eye. Alcazar-Duarte’s interactive installations and books offer viewers a chance to participate in the creation of meaning within the ideas she presents.

Monica will talk about various projects including her book about Mexico and her ongoing space project. She will talk about the extensive research behind her work and show samples of her process. Monica’s work usually connects disparate themes in sometimes surprising ways. Monica will talk about how she brings together themes as disparate as small-town America and The European Space Agency.

One of the biggest challenges in Monica’s work is to find alternative methods to communicate complex narratives. For her this usually involves some kind of exhibition-installation and can involve unusual book styles. In the case of her current space project this involves the use of Augmented Reality technology. Monica will discuss and take questions about a more multi-layered way of working with photography.
