10.30 am Lisa Howe - Getting In & Getting On – Marketing Yourself as a Freelancer
Lisa Howe is an Interactive Media Producer and Skillset Careers Adviser who has been working in the audio visual industries since 1987.
Lisa began work in Manchester as an Assistant in commercial advertising photography, working on shoots for household names including Rolls Royce, ICI Colours, Boddington’s Brewery, DAF trucks, Patak Foods, and Coloroll. She moved across to the interactive sector in 1992 to work on interactive programs for a range of blue-chip corporate clients. Since 1995 she has specialised in producing programs for the music, arts and heritage sectors and has held senior production management roles with two major interactive studios - Peter Gabriel’s Real World and MousePower.
Lisa now works as a freelance Consultant and Project Manager and has also been involved in devising and managing new entrants’ training schemes in the South West.

1pm - Copyright Gwen Thomas, Executive Director of Business & Legal Affairs at The Association of Photographers.
Gwen has worked for the AOP for 19 years campaigning for photographers\\\'
rights in the UK and EU and advising members on copyright, contract and
ethical problems. She is vice chairman for the visual arts of the British
Copyright Council, a Director of the Design & Artists Copyright Society
(DACS), secretary to the British Photographers Liaison Committee (BPLC) and
General Manager of Pyramide Europe, a European Economic Interest Group for
the visual arts. Gwen is co-editor and contributing author of Beyond the
Lens, the AOP’s definitive guide to rights, ethics and business practice.
The talk is aimed at photographers and assistants in their early years of
business and will cover an overview of copyright and photographer related
legislation; how to protect your copyright and make it work for you; how
copyright and licensing works in the real world and the paperwork needed.
The talk will be illustrated with images of real cases and there will be
time for questions and discussion.

Howard Butterfield – Sales and Marketing for Professional Photographers
Howard Butterfield is Managing Director of theimagefile, a web sales solution for professional photographers; he is also a Chartered Director, Local Councilor and Business Angel.
Howard started work in computing in 1979 and worked for an insurance company, publishing house and airline services company before joining a recruitment firm specialising in computer staff. Howard founded and ran his own recruitment company Plexus plc in 1990. Plexus was twice in the Times fast-track 100 and had a turnover of 17m pa when it was merged in 2000.
As part of his role with theimagefile, Howard now presents Sales and Marketing seminars to photographers both in the UK and overseas. The short session today will focus on some of the most essential elements from his Sales and Marketing Workshop.
