Cranbrook is one of the most attractive small towns in the Weald of Kent. Many of the buildings feature tile-hanging and/or white weatherboarding, the latter being a notable feature of the attractive town centre area adjacent to the windmill.
St. Dunstan's Church stands in the town centre. it is a large and spacious building, the current fabric dating mainly from the 14th - 16thC, with fine nave arcades, a number of monuments and several other interesting features. There is some Victorian stained glass, but many large clear windows.
The church is surrounded by an attractive churchyard, and bordering on this is the Church House, a 16thC building that originally was the school.
The Union Windmill dates from 1814, and dominates the town from its hilltop position. It is a smock mill, covered in white weatherboarding, and there are fine views from the town.
Our visit includes time for photography in the church, a pub lunch, time to admire and photograph the town, and visit the windmill.
