The Geffrye Museum, located in Shoreditch, is dedicated to displaying the style of English middle-class living rooms. Its collection of furniture, textiles, paintings and decorative arts are displayed in 11 period rooms which exemplify the period from 1600 to the present day. This is a museum of typical rather than exceptional objects, and will be a fascinating glimpse at changing fashions through the ages. The rooms are set out in elegant former 18th C almshouses, and the site includes a cafe/restaurant and period gardens.
We are visiting the site at a time when the museum is expected to be less busy. We will be able to use tripods, and are levying a fee of £5 per person. There is a restaurant on site which is open until 4.45 p.m.
The Geffrye Museum (136 Kingsland Road, London E2 8EA) is 15 minutes walk from Old Street underground station (exit 2) - alternatively use bus service 243.
