About Your Tutor

Chris Darvill graduated with a Photography degree from Plymouth University in 2000 and went on to produce images for national clients within the advertising and marketing sector. In 2003 he trained as a school teacher and has been teaching Photography in schools for 6 years.

What’s the course?

Understanding the layer blend modes in Photoshop not only provides greater scope for controlling tone and contrast but also provides greater scope for introducing more abstract creative elements to your images.

Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone who wants to move their work in a more creative direction and to develop their understanding of more creative and advanced side to Photoshop. Participants should have a basic understanding of Photoshop to get the most from the course.

What happens on the course?

The course will be based both in a computer suit within Fenton house where the tutor will lead practical workshops as well as photo tour in the city center to gather images that you will develop during the course. At each stage of the course the tutor will give examples and then lead participants through various stages of development.

What do I need to bring?

Your digital camera, spare charged camera battery, blank memory card and a USB memory stick so that you may take your work away with you at the end of the day. A pen and paper might also be useful.

We will be visiting the city center to take some images to use as part of the course (weather permitting) so make sure that you come adequately prepared. If you have any reason why this may cause you difficulty please call to discuss this further. Bring a packed lunch or use local facilities on both days. Tea and coffee are provided. The course is based in and around Fenton House depending on time and weather conditions.

On applicable workshops the RPS uses an Epson Stylus Photo R3000 printer
