The first outing of 2011 is an opportunity to photograph one of England's great mediaeval cathedrals, set on firm ground above the surrounding fenland, and visible from afar. Notable features include the 12th century Norman nave, the beautiful carving and arcades of the 14th C Lady Chapel and one of the wonders of mediaeval church building, the 14th C octagon which replaced the earlier (collapsed) Norman tower above the transept. There is also a Stained Glass Museum.
The party will meet at the main entrance at 1030, after which members pay their own admission charge. There is a range of prices, comprising adult and concessionary prices, admission to the cathedral, the West Tower, the Octagon, the Museum and various combinations thereof. Simple admission is £6,50 (£5.50 concessionary). There will be a charge of £2 for use of tripods.
Refreshments are available in the cathedral refectory, and also in the Almonry Tea Room and Restaurant in the cathedral grounds..
