The Bluebell Railway was one of the first preserved steam railways in the country, running currently from Sheffield Park via Horsted Keynes to Kingscote. The line features a variety of steam engines and carriage stock, a number of considerable antiquity, and all beautifully restored. The stations as well as the trains themselves offer opportunities for photography.

For those without particular interests in railways or transport, the line offer much to the photographer. There are three stations, that at Horsted Keynes being the most interesting. The line abounds with period artefacts - station clocks, period waiting rooms, period travel adverts and signs etc. The line specialises in locomotives and stock from the various companies that successively merged to become the Southern Region of British Railways - the engines and carriage stock is colourful, wth period insignia and plenty of interesting detail.

We will meet at Horsted Keynes station (note this is a good way from the village) at 1030. Prices will vary according to what you wish to do, from a couple of pounds for a platform ticket through to £13 for an unlimited travel ticket for the day. Horsted Keynes is the midpoint of the railway, with trains running approximately hourly in both directions, and two hours minimum required for a round trip. There are refreshment facilities at Sheffield Park, the southerly terminus.

Please note: we have permission to photograph using tripods on the stations and from other locations accessible to the public, but not along the trackside.
