Greg   Duncan's   Information

Fyzzy Noise, Blinkers, Deesharpen, Uncolour, Push-n-Pull, Wacky Line

These are some of the names Greg Duncan has given to the set of Photoshop plug-in filters he has been developing.      Greg has been actively involved in digital imaging for many years and has a reputation for developing his own digital imaging software. He has now made some of these processes available as filter plug-ins. The current set is available for PC systems operating in the 32 bit mode but a 64 bit version is under development. The filters are developed to the standard plug-in interface and are therefore compatible with other software such as Elements and  PaintShop Pro.

What do they do?

With minimal impact on the detail of the image Fyzzy Noise removes the fyzzy linear noise present in all CMOS digital images.

Blinkers provides a very controlled posterization option.

Lab Sharpen Restore - replicates the effect of sharpening the luminosity channel in Lab mode without the complexity and loss of colour detailed associated with converting to and from Lab mode - especially useful for those using Photoshop Elements

Wacky Lines provides a line drawing facility with spot removal.

Uncolour provides a vast range of colour to B&W conversion options in one filter with both pre and post conversion controls.

And as for Deesharpen, Interactive Threshold, Push-n-Pull, Zero Threshold, Show Effects and Self-Select - well you will need to come on the day to see what these do.

Direct Demonstration
Greg will be showing why he developed these filters and what you can do with them. He will also be demonstrating some of the techniques he has developed for image manipulation such as non-destructive cloning, genuine sharpening and self adjusting images. If time permits, he will also examine and explain why some of the recommended techniques may have unexpected consequences, such as image resizing using Bicubic and why JPEG has such a limited colour gamut.

Having now retired from his vocation in software development, Greg has been developing these filters as an income supplement and will be offering the filter set on the day at the reduced price of £15. In case you might be interested, bring along a USB jump stick and get your copy on the day.

The filter set includes a fully documented manual in PDF format. For those who might be interested, there is even a section in the manual presenting some of the equations behind such processes as LEVELS, SHARPEN, mode conversion and JPEG.
