If you enjoy visiting historic properties with your camera, this course is just what you need! In conjunction with ENGLISH HERITAGE, we are delighted to be able to offer a great day out photographing their stunning ancient properties in Derbyshire. Led by Martine Hamilton Knight ARPS, this is a perfect opportunity to discover how to photograph historic buildings beautifully.

Designed for photographers who have some experience with their digital camera and want to improve their skills using heritage sites as subject matter.
The day includes:
- Photography of Bolsover Castle grounds and various buildings, with a trip over to Sutton Scarsdale Hall in the afternoon to capture the dramatic ruins there.
- Using interesting features of the location to frame your shots and create imaginative compositions.
- Depth of field control and when to use different focal length lenses for emphasis and perspective control.
- Top tips on using your camera internally and externally, with the use of ambient light and addition of flash for more control over contrasting exposures.
Commanding a spectacular hilltop location in Bolsover, this enchanting castle with romantic picture-book looks is the perfect setting for our informative day. Beautiful open courtyards and the walled Venus Garden sit between stunning ruins and impressive 17th century buildings, offering a versatile combination of spaces to shoot, including the little castle, the indoor riding house and extensive ruins. In the afternoon, we go over to the remains of another remarkable stately home from 1724 - Sutton Scarsdale Hall, where we may explore at leisure.
Tea or coffee will be provided in the morning and afternoon breaks.
Lunch is not included but there is a cafe and visitor centre serving home-cooked food at Bolsover Castle where we are based, or you may bring a packed lunch.

ACCESS
Clients with special needs or requirements must advise the RPS before the event so that appropriate measures can be taken. There is wheelchair access and disabled toilet facilities at some of the venues, but courses including outdoor activity are likely to encounter steps, gradients and other physical barriers. Often old listed properties do not have lifts and certain shot viewpoints may involve using several flights of stairs. Further details can be obtained from the RPS office and should be discussed before the event.
