Photographers' Archives and Legacy Project - Seminar
In partnership with Plymouth University The Society is hosting a seminar on photographers' archives and their legacy. This is one of a series of events being held in Manchester, Birmingham and London.
Professor Jem Southam of Plymouth University has been awarded £9,950 from Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts scheme towards an important research and development project which aims to ensure new work made by contemporary photographers has a life and legacy that can benefit future generations - the general public, researchers and students. The event will involve a small number of presentations and discussion of the issues around this important subject.
As part of the research photographers are being encouraged to think about what future they want for their work and archives, where they might go, who will have access to them and how much contextual material should be kept and made available. Through consultation, case studies and research into models of good practice, the project aims to develop some guidelines for photographers to help them think about and plan for the future of their work.
There is more on the project by clicking here.
The event will be of particular interest to:
- photographers with any sort of archive - film, paper, digital, organised, chaotic
- curators, librarians, archivists - those involved in acquiring and working with archives
- students and early career photographers who should think about this from the start
- families of photographers who are thinking about what to do with an archive
Light refreshments provided.
Although the event is free there is limited space and we would ask that you book a place. Click HERE to book.
As demand for places is likely to be high if you you find you are unable to attend please let the organisers know so that the place can be reallocated.
