Creepy Collodion
Guy J. Brown FRPS
The wet collodion process, introduced by Frederick Scott Archer in 1851, still has much to offer the modern photographer. Cooldion [gun cotton dissolved in ether and alcohol] is flowed onto a metal or glass plate, sensitised in a bath of silver nitrate, and then exposed in a view camera while still wet. After development and fixing, a unique positive image is obtained that has an astonishing depth and tonality. Guy will describe the process, show some the equipment used [including victorian cameras and lenses] and present a portfolio of collodion work. His subjects include people, robots and still life, and the results are often creepy [and sometimes downright strange].
A Fellowship journey
Nigel Tooby FRPS
In contrast Nigel Tooby FRPS is going digital, with a talk on his Fellowship book. Starting with the thought process, planning, considered imagery and best road travelled in achieving the finished result.
