The Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon was the first Buddhist temple in the United Kingdom, and is the only Thai Buddhist temple in Europe. It was relocated from Richmond in 1976, and the temple building is contained in 4 acres of peaceful grounds. It is home to monks who live in the traditional Thai style.
As this is an afternoon visit, we shall have lunch beforehand. The party will meet at the Crooked Billet, 14-15 Crooked Billet, Wimbledon, SW19 4RQ. This is on the southern edge of Wimbledon Common, off Woodhayes Road. Lunch is served from 12 noon, so participants are requested to turn up around 11.30 a.m., so food can be ordered. If you need further information if necessary please contact Martin Fletcher.
It is about a mile from here to the temple, where we will be able to use the small car park. Our visit here will commence at 1.00 p.m.
Please note that you must not enter the temple except with our party, as before 1.00 p.m. it will be in use by the resident monks.
