Distinctions Advisory Day Report

North West Region

Our Distinctions Advisory Day was held on Sunday 28th September 2008, at Hough End, Manchester.

12 people came for LRPS advice, and 8 for ARPS advice and 5 for FRPS. This was full to our capacity. 9 people came as observers, and the venue was pleasantly full.

I was surprised that the large number of people submitting work were non-members.

Vanessa Slawson FRPS advised on LRPS, Tom Dodd FRPS advised on FRPS/ARPS Travel and Visual Art, with Nick Scott FRPS on FRPS/ARPS Applied & Professional.

One person for FRPS brought along slides, which was a pleasant surprise but we were prepared with a slide projector.

Distinction Advisory Day seems to be in demand as we were sold out. However, we did learn a lesson that to be realistic time-wise we would not like to take more than 20 to show their work. However, we shall continue holding more advisory days each year.

I am most grateful to Howard Hilton ARPS to take the lead on organising the Distinctions Advisory Day which he had also done in the past. A very well organised day and my sincere thanks to him. I also on this day had the pleasant duty to perfom which was long over due to thank Howard Hilton ARPS for having served on the North West Region committee for many years. Howard was presented a 'Portfolio One' book in appreciation of his service to the Region.

Congratulations to Roy Appleby ARPS and I had the pleasure of presenting him with his ARPS certificate. Well done Roy and now start working for FRPS.
