Entry is now open for The Society Photobook Exhibition 2014. Closing date 1 September 2014. Open to members only, this new addition to our exhibition programme is your opportunity to join the growing interest in creation of photobooks.
The Photobook Exhibition is open to all RPS members. Books are to be self-produced, not commercial book trade publications and there is no specified time restrictions on the date images were taken. ‘Found’ images may be included, provided their source is identified. One book per entrant, created by the entrant between 1 Jan 2013 and the closing date of 1 Sept 2014.
Books are to have a general theme, this can be of any genre; books that are just a collection of the entrant’s best images would not be suitable. Hand-made or other ‘artist’ books are accepted as well as those produced by print-on-demand services. There are no restrictions on book dimensions.
The entry fee will be £25 plus return postage. See the Rules and Conditions for details on how to enter. The book is to be posted or otherwise delivered to Fenton House, Bath. Only physical books will be accepted, not e-books or PDFs.
Selection of the short-list of 25 books will be by international exhibition selector Ray Spence FRPS, and by photobook designer, collector and judge Brian Steptoe FRPS. The selection of award winners will be by Gerry Badger, co-author with Martin Parr of The Photobook: A History vols. 1 and 2. Award prizes will be given to the author of the winning book to the value of £250 and prizes to the value of £100 to each of the authors of runner-up books, together with Society medals.
Short-listed and award winning books will be exhibited at Fenton House during November 2014. If entry fee finances allow, exhibition at a further venue will be considered.
