2014 saw a record number of young photographers selected for the exhibition and narrative surfaced as a strong aspect of the show. The selection panel included Northern Irish Photographer and Professor of Photography, Paul Seawright.

The International Print Exhibition 157 presented the best in a wide range of genres; ranging from documentary, portraiture, landscape through to fine art. Narrative played a key part and the selectors felt that a strong single image should be able to convey a message or elicit an emotional response. Over 6,600 images were submitted to the 2014 competition from photographers in 72 countries and of the selected work, it was encouraging to see that 28% of the exhibition was from photographers under 30 years of age.

Paul Seawright, Photographer and Professor of Photography at the University of Ulster comments, "For me the work that stands out in the exhibition marries excellent photographic skill with ideas, producing prints rich in meaning, message and technique. The subject matter ranges from the sublime and unusual to the everyday...My selection skipped over subjects that are established photographic clichés, searching instead for images that took risks, surprised me or summed up something relevant or profound about the world we inhabit". Paul Seawright, 2014 Selector.

Documentary Photographer, Jordi Ruiz Cirera describes what he looks for in an image "For me, photography is a way of telling stories. I am interested in an image conveying a message. The technical quality is important but equally, it is the ability to work with the style that fits the story. I am always drawn to a photograph that makes me wonder what else is there, rather than a perfectly composed and executed image." Jordi Ruiz Cirera, 2014 Selector.
