Light Works was a Royal Photographic Society exhibition to celebrate International Year of Light 2015 in the United Kingdom. It consisted of 50 2 x 1½ metre photographs displayed outdoors and free to the public at different venues around the UK.

© Gary Evans / Burlington House 2The fifty images provided a virtual journey through the electromagnetic spectrum from gamma rays to radio waves, showing how each kind of ‘light’ is used in our everyday lives through science, technology and medicine. The images explored ways of looking at ourselves and the world around us in a journey that takes us to visible and invisible worlds from inside our own bodies to the outer reaches of the very edge of space.

Each image included a description of what the image showed, where the 'light' used sits on the electro-magnetic spectrum and who made the image as well as a QR code to provide more information about each picture.

© Gary Evans / Burlington House 4 Images were printed 2 metres wide and 1 ½ metres high, and mounted back-to-back on custom-made display stands. These were placed in public locations in a number of cities around the United Kingdom.

The exhibition was funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and is supported by the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) and The Royal Photographic Society (RPS). It was curated by Gary Evans ASIS FRPS.
