The World As Captured Through the Lens of Jeff Vickers FRPS

Jeff Vickers FRPS has, for 50 years, been at the forefront of photography, firstly as an influential image maker and latterly in a pivotal role chairing some of photography’s most innovative imaging companies.  Jeff started as a theatre and fashion photographer in the mid 60s and then became a well known advertising photographer, working with the largest agencies and major accounts.  He is known as the ‘Father of colour copying’ for his founding of ChromaCopy in the mid 60s, which became a global brand.  He later changed the name to ‘Genix Imaging’ Ltd and his company became one of the first to use the term ‘imaging’ in its trading title.  Jeff is now known as one of the founding fathers of the modern imaging scene.

Jeff’s current passion is with travel photography, and the June exhibition at Fenton House shows example of some of his recent work.  Two of the photographs in the exhibition, which are entitled ‘East Meets West’ and ‘Old Man of Rajasthan’ were selected for The Society’s International Print Exhibitions in 2006 and 2007, and he has had a print selected for an Award in this year’s exhibition.  Jeff has travelled extensively in South East Asia and has a fascination with the history of its people and the present day culture, and the Exhibition focuses on portraits of the people and their daily lives and activities.

Jeff has been a great supporter of The Royal Photographic Society with his sponsorship of exhibitions and the introduction of the Jeff Vickers - Genix Imaging Bursary for young photographers.  At the age of 70, he is still a very active photographer and says, “It’s photography that gives me my life force to carry on working”.
