Unmanipulated Vision
3rd - 27th May 2011

North Yorkshire-based Maggie Spink FRPS says that her interest in photography dates from when she was about seven years old. “My father was an artist and photographer”, she adds. “He had a camera, and I wanted it! From then on, all I wanted for Christmas was a camera. Many Christmases - and many cameras – later, I still have my passion for photography and painting.”

Spink taught art and photography for eight years to 11-16 year olds in Cheshire. After that, family commitments meant she didn’t have enough time to paint, although she continued with her photography, working in diverse aspects of the medium, and enjoying them all. “Over the past few years, I have worked to stretch the boundaries of my photography”, she says, “to produce a different style of work. My images have been very influenced by painting. I have done work for Yorkshire Television, shot covers for Sheep Farmer Journal, and contributed to stock libraries. My work has been exhibited at the Barbican, in York, and at RPS touring venues. I have lectured at camera clubs, and sold many of my portraits.”

The set of photographs exhibited at Fenton House, show the kind of work that Spink now loves to make. “All the images are exactly as I took them, and are not manipulated in any way”, she says.
