Margaret Salisbury FRPS - October 2008
DARLUNIAU Y DDRAIG (The Dragon's Pictures)
The exhibition of photographs by Margaret Salisbury FRPS, which is titled to reflect her connection with north Wales and her knick name of ‘The Dragon’, majors on Venice Carnival’s exotic costumed revellers over the many years that she has been attending the Carnival. The prints show early monochrome images alongside current digital work. Also in the exhibition are images from Ghana, where Margaret stayed in primitive villages, one of which was a fishing community. With this diverse subject matter she photographs life at its many stages. Says Margaret: “I was able to enjoy the wonderful unspoilt happiness of the children, who have few of the things available in our world.” There is a contrast here between the two cultures photographed, through which she hopes to portray the “haves” of the European world, and the “have-nots” of Ghana, the latter of which she feels were the happier. “Photography makes this possible.”
