2nd - 27th August 2010

Richard spent a large part of his working life in the retail motor trade working with design driven manufacturers such as Ford, Volvo and BMW, so it's hardly surprising that he has a special interest in shape and form which is emphasised in his photography.

In 1998, on joining his local club, that interest led him into photographing church interiors, Lakeland landscapes including the famous pines, flowers and a multitude of preconceived items.

But what he started to find was that often very simplistic images with strong tonal design gave him the greatest satisfaction.  Trips to Greece and Spain, with their whitewashed houses, offered the perfect backdrop for his minimalistic ideas, leading to a successful Fellowship of the RPS in 2001.

Serving for eight years on the Society’s Licentiate Adjudication Team and the associated workshops, he found that his study of design and image layout to be very helpful in quickly identifying similar skills in submitted work.

This exhibition of 30 images is his first at the Royal Photographic Society and seeks to illustrate Richard’s enduring philosophy as applied to both silver and digital photography.
