Roy Robertson FRPS - April 2009
Spirit - STONE
This exhibition of photographs is a combination of Contemporary Dance and Scottish landscape by Roy Robertson FRPS. Both respond to events and locations, portraying landscape and culture as part of one place.
Following a year long project on the Repertory Theatre, Roy has exhibited in Milan and Germany combining dance with Scottish landscape. Landscape has always been a part of Roy’s photography – he sees this as somewhere to explore both the place and his photography in greater detail, looking at the elements of the land, how it has been formed, and the story it can tell.
Dance looks at emotions and movement within a controlled space. Both use light, movement and time to tell their story. Combining the two, the images are set in a broader context, inviting the viewer to add their own interpretation and response.
The Artistic Director of Scottish Dance Theatre, Janet Smith:
“Roy’s photography condenses and distils meaning and feeling from the dance and yet creates its own sense of movement and moment.”
