Exhibition Co-ordinator Afzal Ansary ASIS FRPS states:

I am convinced that one of the strongest features of The Society is that it caters for many and diverse areas of photography. Most of us have a special interest in one or more aspects of photography.

I believe it is important that current members and potential members are made more aware of the contributions made by The Society's Special Interest Groups. What better way to promote these groups than to show the kind of work that they produce in the form of a Special Interest Groups Exhibition.

Message from The Society's President:

Many RPS members belong to one or more of The Society’s Special Interest Groups (SIGs). These SIGs are intended to encourage and support members’ photographic interests in specialist technical approaches or subjects. These contribute specialist expertise to the Society, run major programmes of events of both a specialist and general nature across the country throughout the year, present regular exhibitions of members’ photography, and contribute significantly to The Society meeting its aims of “Promoting the Art and Science of Photography”. All the Groups publish specialist Journals on their own specialist fields.

They allow photographers to develop their skills, broaden their knowledge, and learn from eminent experts in their own fields. They can open eyes to new interests, provide opportunities to travel, to learn, and to socialise with new friends with shared interests. They provide opportunities for members across the world to meet and exchange views. Many of the Groups run postal or electronic Portfolios, enabling members, wherever they live, to share each other’s work, to comment on it and explore it, from their own homes.

The Society is extremely grateful to Afzal Ansary ASIS FRPS for this initiative, and for the work he has carried out to bring the work of the Groups together in this exhibition. With Afzal, I would thank everyone who has worked with him to bring the initial idea to fruition. It highlights the work and expertise of the Groups within the Society.

The images illustrate their work, the accompanying text sets out clearly the aims of each of the individual Groups. Visit the Society’s website www.rps.org to see the range of events organised by them, to which you, as a member or non-member of the Society would be welcome. I congratulate everyone who has contributed towards this exhibition, and hope that it can be enjoyed by members of the Society and the wider photographic community across the world.
