Tony and Eva Worobiec FRPS - September 2008
Icons of the Highway
The Royal Photographic Society will be showing work from husband and wife Tony Worobiec FRPS and Eva Worobiec FRPS this September. The exhibition is a beautiful photographic essay about an America that's fast fading away.
Often when we think of the United States, we remember the things that once set it apart visually: the flamboyant and oversized automobiles, bright neon lighting the ubiquitous diner, the movie-house, theatre and launderette- and a concept which until recent years remained strangely unique to America, the motel. Sadly these are now in steady decline. In this collection of photographs, the Worobiecs capture the magic that remains, on journeys ranging from the far north - the High Line at the Canadian border - across the high plains to the desert towns of Arizona, New Mexico , and Texas. Their images of casinos, remnants of movie palaces, burger shacks, and roadside sculptures all evoke a once glorious past.
Images from this project are included in their new book, "Icons of the Highway; A Celebration of Small-Town America", published by Artists and Photographers Press Ltd. Copies are available from RPS Reception for £15.99 plus P&P.
