Vanessa Warren ARPS is a professional fine art photographer whose images draw inspiration from the work of the Renaissance painters. As part of her formal fine art education she studied draughtsmanship at the Charles Cecil Studios in Florence and, taking her lead from the techniques of the Renaissance, she continues to employ life drawing as the starting point for many of her finished images of the human figure.

Vanessa’s photographs master a deep interest in fabric and texture, evident both in the subject-matter of her images and the technique of their creation, with several of her images filtered through textured glass or fabric. With techniques such as these and through meticulous composition of her images, she seeks to evoke atmospheres of grief, distraction and escapism. Above all her images are known for their sensitivity to the human – and specifically feminine – condition.

For this exhibition Vanessa has selected images characteristic of her work drawn from across a career which has seen her photograph all over the world. She has achieved international recognition through competitions and exhibitions, most recently in Los Angeles and her work has been featured in a BBC One television programme. Vanessa was born in Madrid in 1977 and grew up in France and Africa. She studied in Florence and Milan before achieving an MA in photography from Central St Martin’s.
