Gwil Owen has recently retired from the post of Photographer in the Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology in Cambridge University. He is a member of the archaeological team at Tell el Amarna in middle Egypt, now operating under the auspices of the Amarna Trust.

Cultural Heritage

There are two parts to cultural heritage.

     The first is what we are and do, the products of which we leave for our descendents to inherit. It varies from fine art to steam trains, from literature to cricket. We use anthropology, sociology and allied studies to help us understand ourselves.

       The second part is the fragmented and incomplete heritage that long gone peoples have left to us. The disciplines within archaeology  gives us clues to the understanding of the cultural values of earlier societies.
