Visit to Aylesford Priory, The Friars, Aylesford, Kent, ME20 7BX
Meet 1000 in the car park at Aylesford Priory.
Organiser John Spence ARPS (020 8402 1306) - please phone for further details and to advise you are coming on the visit.
Founded by the Carmelites in the 13th C, the site passed through many owners after the dissolution of the monasteries, but was re-acquired by the Carmelites in 1949. A serious fire in 1930 had brought many of the original features of the priory to light.
Some of the mediaeval buildings have been restored, and the site, with its open-air shrine, is again a place of pilgrimage and spiritual retreat as well as a visitor attraction.
There is no entrance charge, but donations may be made.
