The Creative Group of the Royal Photographic Society encourages the photographer to make a personal photographic statement in which he or she seeks to stimulate the imagination and arouse the emotions of the viewer. It is the personal input of the photographer which makes the description creative appropriate.
"About Us" (see left) describes fully our aims and what we understand by Creative Photography.
We have another website at http://creativegroup.rps.org which contains over 1400 images for you to view, including many galleries of our Members' images and Distinction Panels, our recent exhibitions and full details of our meetings, both national and local. That website is no longer updated and is due to close during 2013.
There is also information about our newsletter, the "Creative Eye", including how to contribute letters and illustrated articles or, for non-members, how to obtain a copy. Back issues can be downloaded from the website using Adobe Acrobat Reader.
We have about 210 members world-wide who participate by sending prints and projected images for our annual exhibitions, attend local, informal Area Group meetings, belong to our Portfolio Groups and attend our national meetings.
3 National events are held each year in March, July and October, usually at the Whittlesford Memorial Hall, Whittlesford, Cambridgeshire. We try to choose venues that are central and convenient for most of our members.
Members active in our Portfolio Group send, by email, monthly images for appreciation and friendly comment. All portfolio images from the past year can also be seen on our website.
Cost: there is an annual fee of just £12 [£15 from 2013], but new members of the RPS may elect us as their Special Interest Group of choice and receive free membership for their first year.
To join, download an application form here (see left) and send with your cheque, if applicable, payable to "R.P.S." to either our Membership Secretary or Mr. Simon Bibb at the RPS in Bath. As soon as our Membership Secretary is aware of your application, she will send you a "Welcome Pack" with full details of how you may engage in our activities together with copies of our recent "Creative Eye" magazines. Applications made via Bath will necessarily encounter a delay of about one month.
