Starry, Starry Night
For those of you who are searching for some clear skies to do some astronomical photography a trip to Scotland could be just what you are looking for. For most us the general increase in street lighting has made it very difficult if not impossible to find anywhere that is without light pollution.
So why Scotland? Well in 2009 the Galloway Forest Park was declared and officially recognised as the UK's first Dark Sky Park thus adding it's name to only six other sites world wide with the same status. It has been said that conditions here are as so dark that only a photographers darkroom in the middle of the ocean would register a higher reading on a Sky Quality Meter.
One of the reasons the skies in Galloway Forest Park are so dark is because there are so few points of lights around it. In fact when the residents who live locally were consulted it was only necessary to send out 47 letters.
