Rules for the Millennium Cup Print Competition

  1. This competition is open to all who attend the meeting and also to Season Ticket holders who may not be able to attend in person but are able to submit prints through another person.
  2. The photography shall be entirely the work of the person submitting the prints. The printing may be carried out by someone other than the photographer.
  3. In consideration of the objectives of the Digital Imaging Group, all entries must include a digital phase in the workflow from capture to print.
  4. The prints may be colour or monochrome and up to two prints per person may be entered.
  5. The prints may be of any size, but must be mounted on board to a maximum size of 50 x 40 cm.
  6. Any image submitted must not have awarded a place in a previous Thames Valley Centre print or PDI competition. That is to say that images placed first, second or third or have been Commended or Highly Commended in either the print or the PDI competitions of the Thames valley Centre are ineligible. Images that are substantially the same as a previously placed entry will be regarded, for the purpose of this rule, as the same image. We wish, however, to see new work and the re-submission of any non-placed image is discouraged.
  7. There will be one group, and the work will be judged by an independent qualified judge.
  8. The winner will be awarded the Millennium Cup which they may hold for a period of 12 months. The cup will need to be signed for as this is an open competition.
  9. Certificates will be awarded to the winner, to those gaining a place in the competition, and to those awarded 'Highly Commended'.
  10. All entries must be submitted by 10.30 am on the morning of the competition.

NOTE:

  1. We would like the option to display the winning images at a low resolution on the Centre’s web site gallery, where we will endeavour to mark the images with the copyright of the author. We would ask you to submit a JPEG of any placed image you would like to see in the gallery.

Rules for the PDI Competition

  1. The PDI competition is open to all current Season Ticket holders and those who have purchased a Day Ticket for the day of the competition. There is, however, no requirement to be present on the day.
  2. Entrants may submit up to two images; all entries will be displayed as a single class in random order.
  3. All images must be the sole copyright of the entrant.
  5. Images should be no more than 1400 pixels wide and no more than 1050 pixels high, colour space sRGB, and in JPEG file format.
  6. There are strict requirements for the naming of image files, which will be specified well in advance of the competition. Any image file not conforming to the naming requirements may be eliminated from the competition without prior notice.
  7. The competition will be judged either by an external judge or by a secret ballot among those present, to be decided and announced by the Centre Organiser.
  8. If judged by an external judge, he or she will determine a winner, a second place, a third place, and award certificates. In addition, up to three Highly Commended images may be awarded certificates. If the competition is assessed by an external judge (and not by popular vote), the judge may award as many Commendeds as he/she wishes. Commended entries do not receive certificates.
  9. If judged by secret ballot among those present, the winner and placings will be determined from accumulated scores.
  10. All entries must be submitted by email to pdicomp@rpsdig-thamesvalley.org.uk. Entries must be received before the end of the Thursday before the competition.

NOTES:

  1. The rules regarding the naming of image files depend very much on the competition software used on the day, which may change from year to year.
  2. We would like the option to display the winning images at a low resolution on the Centre’s web site gallery, where we will endeavour to mark the images with the copyright of the author. An entrant who does not want his or her image to be displayed on the web should let us know when entering.
