The Travel Group is open to all members of the Royal Photographic Society for a small extra subscription of £15 per annum, and is best described by stating it’s objectives , which are:

To improve the quality and reputation of Travel based photography;

To provide a forum where members of the RPS can improve their knowledge, and exchange views relating to travel related subjects;

To arrange meetings of an educational nature;

To facilitate suitable activities for members.

We aim to meet these objectives in a number of ways, and the principle activities of the Group are:

The publication of the Travel Log Newsletter, three times a year; this contains photographs and articles written by members describing their travels, joys, problems and advice;

Arranging meetings in conjunction with the Regions, at which the main topic is travel photography, normally talks by our members always illustrated usually with slides or digital projections; but sometimes with prints;

Arranging photographic travel tours for small groups to interesting locations, where the main purpose of the tour is photography.

An annual "Spring Weekend" meeting, with talks and events throughout a Saturday and Sunday (with a dinner on the Saturday evening ) at which members can meet one and other and discuss topics of common interest; this has been a regular event in our calendar for many years and is always very successful and enjoyable;

Competitions at our meetings comprising a 5 minute talk presenting 15 slides on a travel topic;

An annual exhibition/ competition of members photographs with RPS medals awarded; open to projected images - digital or slides with the Joan Wakelin Trophy for the best entry;

Encouragement to members to make presentations and talk about their travel experiences; including making presentations using digital equipment;

Encouragement to apply for the Society’s Distinctions, with specific advise on Travel photography;

An online digital portfolio -through which members can see and comment on the work of others and have their own work appraised likewise.
