The Society began publishing a journal in 1853 and that Journal of the Photographic Society of London continues today as the RPS Journal. Until 1945 the journal carried a range of art and science based articles and papers. In that year the scientific papers were moved into a separate publication. 

Other than the journals The Society publishes an acclaimed catalogue for its annual print exhibition and science exhibition and it now has a a CD to showcase its projected image exhibition. The Society also publishes occasional books the most recent being Portfolios 1 and 2.
