How to apply for Licentiateship exemption
Introduction to Exemption
If you already hold a photographic qualification you may not have to submit a portfolio of work for the Licentiateship.
EXEMPTIONS
Step 1
The courses recognised by the Society are as follows:
- BTEC ND / HNC / HND IN PHOTOGRAPHY
- PHOTOGRAPHIC FOUNDATION DEGREE
- IF YOU ARE A CURRENT LBIPP
- IF YOU ARE A CURRENT LMPA
- PHOTOGRAPHY CITY & GUILDS LEVEL 3 Photo Imaging (7512) (4 merits and 1 Distinction required)
- PHOTOGRAPHY A LEVEL -GRADE A OR B
The qualification gained must not be more than 10 years old.
We do look at other courses, so please e-mail Andy Moore LRPS Distinctions Manager with course details and we will confirm whether or not it is acceptable. andy@rps.org
Courses we do not award The Royal Photographic Society Distinction for are as follows:
- OU T189
- Online courses
- Overseas courses
Step 2
You will need to fill out an LRPS application. Please follow the exemption guidelines indicated on the application form. (sections 1,3,9,10,12 & 13)
If you are a member of the Society all you need to is the admin charge of £25.
If you are not already a member, then you need to join at the same time you apply for the Distinction (section 11 of the LRPS Application).
Step 3
To accompany your application, we ask that you send a photocopy of your certificate of the award gained or a letter of confirmation from the relevant University/college. The accompanying evidence must state your full name, the award gained and the place of study.
Step 4
The Royal Photographic Society's Council will need to ratify your application, which is done once in every month. After this point the Distinction is awarded and your membership application is then processed.
A letter of confirmation, Certificate and lapel badge will be sent within seven working days of the Council Meeting.
